Centralne Muzeum Jeńców Wojennych

Publikacja jest wydanym na dobrym poziomie edytorskim katalogiem prac malarskich znajdujących się w zbiorach Centralnego Muzeum Jeńców Wojennych. Zainteresowani znajdą tu obrazy olejne, akwarele, pastele i kolorowane rysunki jeńców wojennych, poznają także najistotniejsze informacje ich dotyczące, tj. autorów, daty i miejsca powstania materiału, z którego je wykonano itp. Większość prac pochodzi z obozów dla oficerów (oflagów), część z nich powstała podczas kursów rysunku i malarstwa lub na wyższych kursach nauczycielskich. Wśród przedstawianych tematów znajdują się m.in. rysunki z natury, ale także rysunki satyryczne. Wszystkie zachwycają kolorami, tak kontrastującymi z obozowymi realiami, niektóre tę rzeczywistość przedstawiają, inne zachęcają do refleksji, dokumentując stan świadomości jeńców i ich marzenia, wykraczające poza obozowe druty.

This publication, which can boast of a high editorial quality, is a catalogue of paintings remaining in the collections of the Museum. Those interested will find here oil paintings, watercolors, pastels and colored drawings made by POWs. They can also get to know the most important and relevant information relating to the selected items, that is the names of the authors, dates and places of creation of the art works or materials they were made from, etc. The majority of works come from oflags (camps designed for officers), part of them having been created during courses in drawing and painting, or in classes of higher teachers’ courses run in POW camps. Among the presented themes, there are both drawings from nature and satirical pictures. All of them delight the viewer with colors which stand in stark contrast with the camp reality, some just reflecting it, some evoking deeper reflections, documenting – at the same time – the state of POWs’ consciousness and their dreams that reached far beyond the camp wires.
