Prezentowany informator towarzyszy wystawie stałej „Jeńcy polscy w ZSRR ”, która została otwarta w Centralnym Muzeum Jeńców Wojennych w Łambinowicach-Opolu w 2008 r. Autorki tej publikacji przedstawiły w układzie chronologicznym losy żołnierzy, począwszy od okresu przedwojennego, przez pierwsze dni wojny i niewoli aż po zbrodnię dokonaną na polskich jeńcach w Katyniu, Charkowie i Miednoje. W zwięzłej formie opisały historię milczenia wokół zbrodni katyńskiej w powojennej Polsce i jej następstwa w codzienności rodzin ofiar oraz w życiu społecznym i politycznym kraju. Uwzględniły przy tym próby uczczenia pamięci zamordowanych jeńców, podejmowane przez polskie środowiska emigracyjne oraz opozycję polityczną w kraju, zwłaszcza w latach 80. Zarówno fakt zebrania w jednej publikacji tak wielu informacji dotyczących niewoli w ZSRR, jak i interesująca szata graficzna sprawiają, że informator jest przydatnym źródłem wiedzy. Daje także dobre wyobrażenie o wystawie, którą można zwiedzać w siedzibie muzeum w Łambinowicach.

The presented catalogue accompanies the permanent exhibition under the same title, which was opened in the Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War in Łambinowice-Opole in 2008. The authors of this publication presented the fates of the soldiers in the chronological order, starting with the pre-war period, going through the first days of the war and captivity until the crime perpetrated on the Polish POWs in Katyń, Charkiv and Mednoye. They described, in a concise way, the history of the silence veiling the Katyń crime in the post-war Poland and its consequences for the everyday life of the victims’ families and for the country’s social and political life. They also took into account the attempts at commemorating the memory of the murdered POWs undertaken by Polish emigration environments and the political opposition in the country, especially in the 1980s. Both the fact of collecting in one publication so much information relating to the captivity in the USSR and the interesting graphics of the catalogue make it a useful source of knowledge. It offers, at the same time, a good representation of the exhibition which can be visited at the seat of the Museum in Łambinowice.
